My purpose in writing this blog is to help my family learn the many interesting facts I have learned about our family. The next person I am going to talk about is Elisha Mac Ledford. Elisha was our 2nd grandfather. He was born February 28, 1829. Elisha Mac’s father Peter George Ledford was a private in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary war.

Elisha Mac and his bothers Jason and Joseph joined the confederate Army. Elisha is listed as having distinguished service during the war. His life was fairly uneventful. After the war he returned to work his farm in clay county. When he was 67 years old he was bitten by a rabid dog. The dogs name was either Feist or General. The family story told that he had to be tied to his bed by his brother Daniel. According to Julia Ann his daughter in law he had delusions and one day stuck his hand out and said look Major just jumped off my hand.

The day before he died Elisha asked his brother Daniel to untie him so that he could kneel and pray to the Lord. I read stories were Elisha was a Methodist minister and he preached at the old Ledford Chapel. He prayed that the next day would be sunny, that he would live until 10 o’clock and that ii would be a nice sunny day. He died on April 18, 1886. It was Spring weather at this time so it was unusual for a sunny day. Elisha was the father of Jason Francis Ledford he is our great grandfather.
